Electric blowers were originally developed from chemical sprayers, when product designers realised that the sprayers were being used by owners to gather leaves or other debris together before collecting. Leaf blowers are typically self-contained handheld units, or alternatively the motor can be backpack-mounted, leaving the hands free to operate the wand - a more ergonomic option for prolonged use.
