A mitre saw is a specialist saw for making accurate crosscuts at a 90 degree angle. It is normally used to cut wood for picture frames, crown moulding and skirting boards to ensure the corner joints fit snugly and look attractive. The mitre saw can also cut plastics and thin metals. A compound mitre saw is a more sophisticated mitre saw - it can tilt so that the operator can make compound angle cuts as well as 90 degree cuts.
