There are two main reasons why a battery will fail and so your scooter, motorcycle, car, tractor or lorry will fail to start up. The first is due to continued overuse such as leaving the car lights on overnight, draining the battery of its power without it being able to recharge itself. The other reason for battery failure is through lack of use which leads to natural energy depletion over time. For this reason, major battery manufacturers recommend maintaining starter batteries fully charged during periods of non-use.
However, all batteries will self-discharge after a predefined time, the rate of which is determined by the storage conditions or operating temperature. Cold weather causes extra stress and strain on a battery, and is the most likely time when it will fail. This is evidenced by the car or motorcycle that usually fails to start up in the depths of winter, exactly when you least like to be hanging around outside while someone comes to your rescue.
We stock 6 volt battery chargers for scooters and small motorcycles, 12 volt battery chargers for most motorcycles, cars, garden tractors etc, and 24 volt chargers for lorries, farm tractors, and other large vehicles.
6v batteries are rare these days, and tend to be fitted in machines that are infrequently used. But many chargers are adjustable from 6V to 12V depending on what level of power outage you need. Using the correct battery charger for the right machine will extend your battery life and performance. Although machines that use 6v batteries often receive very limited use it's still worth keeping the battery in optimum condition so you don’t face a long struggle to get it going the one time you do need it.
Ideal for most motorcycles, cars, and garden tractors, etc your 12v battery charger will help preserve the life of your battery and maintain optimum performance when in use. Our modern battery chargers use microprocessor technology to prevent damage through over charging, and to sustain your battery in peak condition via the trickle charge, if you're not around to stop charging and use it instantly. Able to charge any 12v lead acid battery, including flooded, gel cell, and AGM, it charges until the battery voltage reaches a preset cut-off point, at which point it will switch to a very low current float charge. If the battery voltage dips again, the charger will start again until the battery reaches the preset cut-off once more. In this way the battery could be left connected without any damage being done for as long as you need, even if you're away on holiday. However, if you are around, an LED indicates when the battery is fully charged.
24 volt battery chargers are good for lorries, farm tractors, aeroplanes, and other large vehicles, and can be used with most high quality batteries such as wet cell, AGM, deep cycle, and gel cell. Eliminating risky over-charging, and significantly reducing charge time, our 24v battery chargers are state-of-the art technology products. Supplied with crocodile clips, we stock both the single output 24v charger and double output 24v charger. The dual option 24v battery charger is particularly good for marine and heavy equipment, using "intelligent" systems to supervise all phases of the charging process, it continuously adapts to the condition of the battery consistently delivering the right amount of charge. The battery can remain attached for months without any damage being done, as overloading is impossible. Designed to preserve the maximum life expectancy of your battery, it's worth investing in one of our chargers to save you time and money later on.
