Bandsaws are extremely versatile and are a great addition to the power tool collection of any workshop. They can be used to cut wood of different thickness, either into straight pieces or curved shapes. In the hands of a skilled operator, the bandsaw can cut detailed and irregular shapes out of wood and other materials, such as plastic and thin metal sheeting.
Bandsaws have a narrow toothed blade, or band, that rotates around either two or three wheels. These can be operated at different speeds so materials that need to be worked at slower speeds can be cut effectively. Many bandsaw models can be used with bands of different widths - this is important for shape cutting, as the width of the band determines the radius of the curve that can be cut.
